June Weather Data Released by NWS Cheyenne

From NWS Cheyenne

9AM 7/5 – Here’s a look back at June weather across our area! This will come as no surprise to most, but it was a very warm and dry month.

🌡️ All climate sites were both warmer and drier than average last month, with top 10 warmest Junes occurring at Cheyenne, Laramie, Rawlins, Scottsbluff, and Sidney.

⛈️ While precipitation was below average across the area, NWS Cheyenne issued a total of 64 Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warnings in June, which was right about average. Luckily, this was still much quieter than the very active severe weather we had last June. The most active day was June 20th, which featured a strong supercell thunderstorm that tracked from Chugwater to Scottsbluff, then transitioned to a linear system bringing strong winds to the Alliance area.

💨 June was also a windy month, at least compared to average. While the wind usually calms down in the summer time in our area, a few strong wind days lead to Cheyenne recording its windiest June since 2000. However, long term wind data is not as reliable as temperature and precipitation.
