(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — Nebraska is among the leading states in the recent E. coli outbreak, second only to Colorado.
National news outlets are now reporting that McDonald’s in several states have taken the quarter pounder off of their menu in response to the E. coli outbreak.
Panhandle Scanner verified with both the Scottsbluff and Gering McDonald’s that they have done the same.
Information at this point leads investigators to believe that slivered onions available on Quarter Pounders are the likely suspect ingredient.
So far the CDC is reporting 24 cases in Colorado and 9 in Nebraska with one elderly person dying in Colorado.
A total of 10 people have been hospitalized from the 49 total cases reported thus far.
The company said they sold about 1 million hamburgers in that time frame before realizing the link.
