Could It Get Any Worse?

(GERING, Neb.) — On September 24, 2025, the defendant appeared in District Court via Zoom, because the State filed a motion to revoke probation due to a violation earlier this year.

Originally, Jose Lara was sentenced to two years of probation for the amended charges of assault in a threatening manner and assault causing bodily injury. According to Officer Soucie from Scottsbluff Police Department, two victims reported that Jose had threatened to “cut them into pieces and bury them.”

They went on to report that Jose had attended a family gathering while intoxicated and started a fight, leading to him hitting one victim in the face and pushing her down in a menacing manner several times. That’s when victim #2 attempted to stop Jose from assaulting victim #1. Jose made the threats to both victims who were past household members. Jose then left the gathering and was later found “extremely intoxicated”. He was arrested and transported to Scotts Bluff Detention Center.

While on probation which started March 21, 2025, Jose was pulled over for DUI on May 1st. This was a violation of his probation. He was arrested and again transported to the detention center.

July 18th, he was released on bond, but failed to appear for court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was located and arrested on August 22nd.

Judge Dobrovolny put into record that on September 9th, the state has provided enough evidence to find probable cause that the probation violation had occurred in fact, and he went on to schedule a final hearing on October 6th.

While incarcerated, on August 25th, Jose was charged with assault by a confined person. On video, it was shown that Jose had thrown a punch with his left hand which caused a small blister inside the mouth of the victim. Jose pled not guilty and has a preliminary hearing on January 21, 2026 at 8:00 a.m.

During court Wednesday, September 24th, Jose Lara made the comment “can I be sentenced, just give me my time. f*** it”. The judge however did not hear and his council advised him that they’d meet later this week to discuss his cases.
